My latest granny square afghan project has inspired me to learn about all the different types of granny squares. My search has led me to some really good online tutorials.

Granny squares go so above and beyond the basic square. I've seen pinwheel grannies, flower grannies, multicolor grannies. Think of all the things you can make with granny squares:
purses
belts
scarves
lacy granny tops
blankets/afghans
curtains (with really thin thread)
anything square or rectangle shaped
